Though Nick Schoonover worked 38 years all over the world for IBM, his heart and soul was in his beloved Tioga County, New York. He spent many hours hunting and photographing the wildlife and natural beauty of the land his family has owned since 1790. He cared deeply that the land and resources were treated safely and used for the benefit of all the community.
Therefore, when the prospect of natural gas drilling in the county came to the forefront, Nick delved into the science of the process and effects of safely harvesting this God-given natural resource to the benefit of all. He chose to use his engineering background and leadership to form the Tioga County Landowner Group to educate and guide anyone interested in developing the natural gas resource found here.
Nick had the ability to explore possibilities and tapped into knowledge of experts in all parts of the process, then to disseminate the facts to the community. He was energized by the unification of the group members as landowners worked toward the same goal. He was the leader we needed and was hopeful that it will come to fruition. Nick Schoonover is missed beyond description.
